  1. Major Russian Strength Festival

The Golden Tiger strength festival is structured similarly to the Arnold Sports Festival and features powerlifting, strongman, bodybuilding, armwrestling, and many other events.

The festival is held on the first Sunday in October in celebration of the Russian "Strength Day" holiday; a holiday dedicated to strength sports. At present, Strength Day is not an official holiday but organizers are pushing to make it one.

The powerlifting competition is WPC/AWPC sanctioned. Committed lifters include Alexey Neklyudov, Vladimir Kravtsov, and Vladimir Chadkov. In total, 170 competitors are currently committed to the powerlifting competition, with 250 set as the limit.

  2. Inna Churikova is one of my favorite actress! In January I went to her performance "Смешанные чувства". It was really best night out! Her other most remarkable works were in the films: Tot samyy Myunkhgauzen (That Munchhausen) (1979) written by Grigory Gorin and directed by Mark Zakharov, Voenno-polevoy roman (Wartime Romance) (1983) by Pyotr Todorovsky, Rebro Adama (Adam's Rib) (1990) by Vyacheslav Krishtofovich, God sobaki (The Year of a Dog) (1993) by Semyon Aranovich, Plashch Kazanovy (Casanova's Raincoat) (1993) by Aleksandr Galin, Kurochka Ryaba (Ryaba My Chicken) (1994) by Andrei Konchalovsky, and Shirli-Myrli (What a mess!) (1995) by Vladimir Menshov. But do you remember the sister of main heroine in 'Morozko'? It was Churikova's debut in filmmaking.

  3. Raisa Struchkova, one of the Soviet Union's leading ballerinas in the Bolshoi Ballet when that company first took audiences abroad by storm in the 1950's and 60's, died in Moscow on Monday, the Bolshoi Theater announced. She was 79 and lived in Moscow.

Ms. Struchkova was highly praised at home for her classical dancing, especially in "Giselle" and "Cinderella." But for American audiences who were stunned by the athletic vigor of the Bolshoi at its New York debut in 1959, Ms. Struchkova will always be associated with the high-flying virtuosity that she showed in Soviet-style bravura duets with her husband, Aleksandr Lapauri.
