  1. Today is also National Nut Day which is celebrated in the UK.

National Nut Day in the UK is promoted by Liberation Foods CIC, the pioneering farmer-owned Fairtrade nut company. October 22nd is well-established as National Nut Day in the USA and the organisers want Britain to ‘go nuts’ in the same way!

This year’s focus is on switching to nuts to help the environment. If we in the UK eat less meat and highly processed veggie foods – our planet will benefit. This will keep a lid on greenhouse gasses and won’t use up our valuable land resources.

  3. Ivan Alekseyevich Bunin (22 October 1870 – 8 November 1953) was the first Russian writer to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. He was noted for the strict artistry with which he carried on the classical Russian traditions in the writing of prose and poetry. The texture of his poems and stories, sometimes referred to as "Bunin brocade", is considered to be one of the richest in the language.
Best known for his short novels The Village (1910) and Dry Valley (1912), his autobiographical novel The Life of Arseniev (1933, 1939), the book of short stories Dark Avenues (1946) and his 1917–1918 diary (Cursed Days, 1926), Bunin was a revered figure among anti-communist White emigres, European critics, and many of his fellow writers, who viewed him as a true heir to the tradition of realism in Russian literature established by Tolstoy and Chekhov.

  4. The main motive of the International School Library Day (Week) is to inspire reading habits among students and to motivate them to become independent readers. The Week long programme includes read-write-speak based activities like, story telling, book review writing, poem writing and story writing competition.

Book fair will also happen in the school premises. Motive behind is to make aware of the new publications, great opportunity to have an idea about the latest books.

For example, recently, pupils gathered to celebrate school libraries in the 21st century and think about what their own school library means to them. T-shirt designs were drawn up, ready for some T-shirt painting. Pupils were also challenged to imagine what school libraries might be like in 2020, presenting their entries in any format - painting, song, drama piece...
