November 14

World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign of the diabetes mellitus world and is held on November 14 of each year. It was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to the alarming rise of diabetes around the world. World Diabetes Day is a campaign that features a new theme chosen by the International Diabetes Federation each year to address issues facing the global diabetes community. While the campaigns last the whole year, the day itself marks the birthday of Frederick Banting who, along with Charles Best, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1922.
Each year, World Diabetes Day is centred on a theme related to diabetes. Topics covered have included diabetes and human rights, diabetes and lifestyle, diabetes and obesity, diabetes in the disadvantaged and the vulnerable, diabetes in children and adolescents and talking about Diabetes
For 2009–2013, the theme is Diabetes Education and Prevention

In Russia, the care of diabetes is managed through local hospitals. Doctors are hindered by inadequate supplies and lack of materials in order to treat the problem. Strip provision is low, and in many cases blood testing two or three times a week is the norm.
Strips are for sale in Moscow and other large cities, but the cost is disproportionate to salaries. Furthermore, foot complications and the risk of amputation are enormous in Russia.
It is thought that Russia may place as high as third in the register of countries with the highest number of diabetics in the world, with an estimated 9,613,000 cases.
However, the disease is thought to be undiagnosed in as many as fifty per cent of cases. The lack of management by undiagnosed patients is a major contributing factor to the number of amputations per year. The awareness of the danger of diabetic foot ulcers is simply not there.

  1. On November 14 Admiral Mikhail Petrovich Lazarev (1788 –1851) was born, a Russian fleet commander and explorer. Lazarev first circumnavigated the globe in 1813-1816, aboard the vessel Suvorov; the expedition began at Kronstadt and reached Alaska. During this voyage, Lazarev discovered the Suvorov Atoll. As a commander of the ship Mirny and Fabian von Bellingshausen's deputy on his world cruise in 1819-1821, Lazarev took part in the discovery of Antarctica and numerous islands. On January 28, 1820 the expedition discovered the Antarctic mainland, approaching the Antarctic coast and seeing ice-fields there.

  2. Debate is contention in argument; dispute, controversy; discussion of questions of public interest in Parliament or in any assembly.

Debate is a method of interactive and representational argument. Debate is a broader form of argument than deductive reasoning, which only examines whether a conclusion is a consequence of premisses, and factual argument, which only examines what is or isn't the case, or rhetoric which is a technique of persuasion.

Many serious questions and problems are solved with the help of debates nowadays))) I think this is an important phenomenon nowadays))
